Being a transient town, the
station has seen many DJ’s come and go… at the time of writing, the
only DJ’s who have lasted the distance to see the move into the
studios at the Marina Mirage are Dave 'Double-O' Evans,
and Dale Priem.
Michael & Helen Gabour were welcomed as new partners in January 2003,
and have since become full owners.
With a fresh attitude (and a small injection of capital) the station
spent the rest of 2003 improving in every way. To this day the tide
of 107.1 bumper stickers continues to spread throughout the shire,
and locals and tourists alike have come to appreciate how truly
unique Port Douglas’ own radio station has become - incorporating
local news, issues, and personalities, and being adventurous enough
to steer away from the steady stream of
soulless commercial pop music provided by larger city-based corporate radio
stations.
Over the years, Radio Port Douglas 107.1 FM has produced all
varieties of audio gold – live mayoral debates, interviews with
people like John Butler, Shane Warne, Lucas Neil, and David Bellamy,
promos from international celebrities like Buzz Aldrin, impromptu
live Australian acoustic jams from the likes of Nick Barker, the
Screaming Jets and GangGajang… if I had to picka few of my most precious memories, I wouldn’t –
I’d name them all. But unfortunately space is limited so
“The Voice
of The Douglas Shire” — since 1999.

Radio Port Douglas is clearly the people’s choice in the Douglas
Shire; most locals are tuning in, referring to us as 'Port FM'.
● We are
the one and only truly local station — for the people and by the
people – with over 20 passionate, local personalities complementing
the professional DJ’s.
● We offer
an eclectic programming mix: music as diverse as life itself;
garden, sports, fishing, and comedy shows; international news
digests, local breaking and in-depth news coverage, weather and
politics, events and gig information, live interviews etc…
● We cover
the Douglas Shire from the Rex Range lookout in the south to Cape
Tribulation in the north – including Oak Beach, Mossman, Daintree,
Cooya, Newell and Wonga beaches, Cow Bay…

Port Douglas provides free community announcements and
assistance to charitable organisations, the Douglas Shire council
and all Emergency Services.
● Radio
Port Douglas = more music, less ads! Our policy is to air
only 5 minutes of ads per hour, less than half the time of larger
commercial stations.
