Radio Port
Douglas IS
the Voice of the Douglas Shire and, like the people of the
Douglas Shire, it is an exciting mix of cultural, social and
political expression overlaid on a tableau of tourism.
Tune in anytime of the day for
great music, tourist information, political and cultural commentary
or satire and humour. The programming is as diverse as our listening
audience.
Because we are a local radio station, we are very much a part of the
fabric of local life. We are involved in the debate on issues that
affect the quality of life in this most remarkable location. And
because we are local, we have access to the major players in the
life of the Shire.
We bring you breaking news from the offices of the Mayor and the
Police; we bring you reports from the Coast Guard and the Great
Weather Kahuna; we bring you interviews from State and Federal
politicians and local, regional, national and international sports
heroes. We help produce local events, like Carnivale, the Mossman
Music Festival, the Annual Sporting Achievement Awards, the Yacht
Club parties and debates, and more.
We are definitely not a mainstream commercial station. You may hear
the occasional Top-40 number, but I assure you that will be the
exception rather than the rule. Our show hosts are, for the most
part, locals involved in the tourism industry who share their time,
tastes and talents with visitors and locals alike.
Finally, because I believe that the 4th Estate plays an essential
role in a democracy, we will bring you truthful reporting. We will
examine and analyze issues that affect tourism in the Shire. If an
editorial position is taken on an issue, proponents of differing
points of view will have the opportunity to respond.
